Michigan's First Gentleman Retires Early
Marc Mallory Steps Down from Dental Practice
Governor Whitmer's Husband Cites Health Concerns
Marc Mallory, husband of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the state's first gentleman, has retired from his dental practice. Mallory, who studied zoology at Michigan State University, has been a practicing dentist for over 20 years.
In a statement, Mallory said that he retired eight years earlier than planned due to health concerns. He did not specify the nature of his health problems.
Governor Whitmer said in a statement that she is "proud" of her husband's decision to retire and that she is "looking forward to spending more time with him." She also thanked him for his "support and dedication" during her time in office.
Mallory's retirement comes at a time when Governor Whitmer is facing a number of challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the recent kidnapping plot against her.
